Real skateboards was started in 1991 in San Francisco California by professional skateboarders Tommy Guerrero and Jim Thiebaud with the help of skateboarding legend and the father of Thrasher Magazine, Fausto Vitello. They took their knowledge of the skate industry and started their own brand which still lives as one of the top skate companies to this day. REAL skateboards message has always reflected the real and raw characterics of skateboarding which can be seen in not only their boards but their videos as well. Some top videos put out by REAL skateboards includes The REAL video (1993), Roll Forever (2005), Since Day One (2011), By Any Means (2017) and From Here to There (2019). Each video shows the rawness and pure talent from each team rider. Some of the top riders for REAL include Justin Brock, Jake Donnelly, Zion Wright, Chima Ferguson and even a couple Skater of the Year’s in Ishod Wair and Kyle Walker. REAL skateboards takes pride in their boards, stating “All skaters are not the same, why should their boards be? And they show this in their 5 different styles of boards. There’s REAL Heavyweights boards is a much stronger board thanks to two thick cross grain x bands in their 7 ply decks. Although the board is stated to be a little heavier than normal, you get extra strength and pop due to the x bands which also allow a good stiff board to hold up against major impact. The next shape is the REAL full shape. This features a ⅛” wider nose than tail on their boards allowing a bigger nose for a cleaner flick but a smaller tail for a higher pop. The smaller tail also allows for better board control when popping your tricks. For example, an 8.25 REAL full has a nose that is 7.25 but a tail that is 7.18.The next shape, and my personal favorite, is the Low Pro II. This is their most popular shape, featuring a low center pressed construction with a mellowed nose and tail. This allows for a low center of gravity in the board which gives you more board control and a quicker pop. The Low Pro II also feature the same x bands in their Heavyweight boards which give it that extra strength to last longer and hold up with lots of impact. The R1 Construction boards are REAL’s oldest style of board. It features a board pressed with an exclusive, all equal pressure, mold. The allows for a consistently even board with long lasting concave and a stronger lasting pop. REAL’s newest board designs now feature a REAL Slick construction. These boards feature a ribbed polymer fused onto the bottom ply of the deck that allow your board to slide anywhere with little to no wax at all. So there’s no more getting stuck on a rough ledge or catching on a sticky rail. These Decks, Beanies & Hats, Jackets, TShirts, and Sweatshirts are the sickest around. It's no secret that REAL skateboards are by skaters, for skaters taking each and every detail into the construction of their skateboards. From their 5 different board constructions, to their absolute killer team, REAL skateboards are here and they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
